Life after lockdown

It’s been a long 18 months in and out of lockdown, working from home, no pubs (!) and, as much as we love them, the same family/friends in our bubbles.

But with the arrival of Freedom Day and things slowly returning to normal, we’ve been enjoying resuming life and planning some new and exciting things in our calendars as the world slowly reopens. We asked Team Mahi what they’re most enjoying or looking forward to now that we can finally venture out again.

1. Sun and beaches

Floating (hopefully not facedown) in a swimming pool in France/Spain/Italy, idly wondering what wine will be cracked for tonight's bbq, a fleeting sense of concern crosses my mind like a PTSD flashback that I can hear no kids screaming in the background. Thankfully it is only fleeting as I recall that the children have long been shipped off to boarding school until they
are 18.

2. Global offsite in Vegas

Thanks to the pandemic, we’ve been separated from our beloved New Zealand office for far too long. We’re long overdue an offsite with the full team, and we’re looking forward to making our next one a bit more adventurous with a US edition!

3. Not wearing face masks

Whilst they’ve served us well during the course of the pandemic, we can’t deny the excitement we’re feeling at being able to retire these pesky facemasks. Whether it’s because we’re constantly forgetting them and only realising when we’re halfway to the train station, having to reapply make-up every time we remove them, or generally feeling overwhelmed by how hot they are whenever it’s even remotely warm outside, saying “good riddance” to face masks has given us great joy.

4. Indoor dining

Being able to eat inside a restaurant with more than six people is a distant memory, so we can’t wait to get the whole team out for dinner again to celebrate our hard work. That quick two-week taste of summer was all well and good but now we’re back to typical English weather, we’re a bit over the evenings spent shivering out on a patio.
