Our ‘why’: why we do what we do

Working with a variety of unique businesses, each with their own goals and benchmarks, means MahiMarkets is pretty uniquely positioned too. So, what is our “why”, and what keeps us motivated to continue the work that we do?

When Susan and David Cooney set out to create their company, they outlined one clear mission: to bring together a team of smart, talented trading and technology specialists and together find innovative solutions to the many problems that businesses in the financial industry face today.

Culture has and always will remain at the forefront of everything we do; promoting a culture that feels inclusive and engenders out-of-the-box thinking and open discussion is extremely important to our business as a whole. Establishing an inclusive, open, dynamic culture from scratch is no small feat, but we firmly believe it’s one of the most essential things you can do to set your business up for success. A few examples of how we operate include ensuring a comfortable environment for our team with zero tolerance for politics, operating under a horizontal organisational structure, and prioritising regular events. Since the conception of our company, we’ve rejected conventional office ‘rules’, instead opting for trust and honesty, as we recognise that our people are, well, people. So, if there’s an emergency at home, work shouldn’t have to come first. As long as things get done, regular hours and sitting in an office Monday to Friday are not a priority.

Another important factor in accomplishing our “why” is working closely with our clients in a way we seldom see in our industry. That is, we don’t simply offer our clients a product and leave them to it. We want them to get the most out of our software and really understand what it’s capable of achieving for them. To do this, we partner with each of our clients and create a plan as unique as they are, providing them with the technology and highly experienced support they need to tackle an ever-changing industry. This includes the ability to stabilise risk and safeguard against sudden volatile conditions, as well as a multitude of measures and features that protect their business and contribute to an increase in profits. We assist with problem-solving, optimising execution and hedging and much, much more to garner real, positive change within their business.
